I agree with you. It’s a compromise, and honestly, I cannot imagine a better way of doing things…..maybe I am just not smart enough...

If you make it 100% functional it is very hard to program in.

If you make it 100% imperative you kill optimization.

If you make it predicate-based (as SQL) you don’t have enough expressive power.

So …..
